I know that I am truly blessed to have the Pastor that I do at my Church. (I wish everyone felt that way) But when I was a new
Christian, I was not sure what to call him... Pastor... Minister...
Reverend... Well, the week after I got saved (praise God), my Pastor's Father
guest-preached the Sunday Morning Service. He cleared it up for
me. (Isn't it neat how God works)
He started out telling the congregation abruptly that Wesley (his
son) was NOT our Minister... He was our
Pastor! At first, I thought it was simply semantics of
clarifying a title, but he continued...
He told us (or reminded) us that the Pastor is there to prepare the
flock for Ministry not to be the only
Minister. We are ALL
called to be Ministers.
My first thought was, you mean that we all have to become
Pastors...is this kind of like one of those multi-level-marketing
things (humor).

He then pointed out that Jesus Himself, did not do
His work alone. He chose His Disciples and prepared them for
Ministry for the time when He would ascend into Heaven. Being
a Minister does not mean going to Seminary or getting
ordained. But it does mean that we should minister to those in
need that God puts in our path. Our
first ministry starts at home. We need to be the
children, parents, husbands and wives that God has created us to be.
This is the first step in obedience as well as ministry. This
ministry extends to neighbors, employees, employers, friends and
even strangers that God puts in our life. We
need to be cheerfully and unselfishly meeting their needs, just as
Christ came to meet ours. It is
about serving your Lord through relationships. First
with Him and then with others.
